where does a vanillite keep their money? in the snow bank!

The morning of Friday the 13th starts with an easy sunrise and a very light snowfall. In those first few hours, when characters are just waking up and getting ready to face the day, everything seems pretty normal - but by the time early afternoon rolls around, the background music that permeates the air is repeatedly interrupted by the startled shouts of nearby townspeople.

Whether it's bad luck or because of something more sinister, small groups of Pokémon have taken to playing tricks on any humans who have the misfortune of encountering them. Misdreavus have been screaming in Trainers' ears and laughing at their reactions, Murkrow have been stealing valuables and picking pockets, Sneasel have been pushing people over and picking fights... there's mayhem all through Littleroot, and there's no evidence to suggest all of Hoenn isn't going through something similar. While it may not be dangerous to walk the streets of Littleroot on your own, chances are a Gastly will jump out at you from behind a bush or a Zorua disguised as a child will find a way to tie your shoelaces together while you're walking. It's just that kind of day. Superstitious characters might be better off staying inside.

Meanwhile, in Oldale, citizens have been preparing for a festival scheduled to start at the end of the month. Painted signs line buildings, all of them welcoming people to help make this year's feast the best Hoenn has ever seen, and the smell of home-made desserts and practice recipes fill the air. Anyone looking to make a little extra money is welcome to stop by and assist with construction however they can, but unfortunately, thanks to all the chaos caused by those mischievous Pokémon, the far side of town has been blocked off by man-made barricades erected to keep unwanted brats at bay. Until all of this has been sorted out, characters will be unable to progress too far west, containing them within Oldale's limits.

As the week progresses, the mischief will die down and the snow will start to fall a little heavier. Rarely, Absol will be found peering through the trees between these two towns, warily watching adventurers move from a safe distance. The construction in Oldale is starting to get a little more hectic, with townspeople desperately nailing down supplies and securing their hard work in place. If asked, most of them will mumble something about a bad omen, but there are some who will ignore you in favor of concentrating on their jobs.

It's up to characters to decide what they want to do next, but it seems like it might be a good idea to look for shelter...

welcome to hoenn

Welcome to the wonderful world of Pokémon!

In the small location called Littleroot Town, characters will wake up and find themselves anywhere within the area. Of course, there'd be some waking up on the cold ground, that's usual, but some others might find themselves up in a tree or even on the rooftop of a building. If they're really unlucky, they might find themselves inside some poor chap's house, which would lead to screaming and being chased out with a broom, but ah, what can you do?

No matter where they wake up, every character will find themselves in this quiet town. It might be more like a village though, with only a handful of houses and buildings. It's certainly smaller than any major city, and it's surrounded by a strangely dense forest. The people here don't seem to question all the new arrivals, and would much rather talk about something called "Pokémon", whatever those are. At the very least, the citizens here don't seem threatening and outright rude, but not including the poor people who just had an apparent theft appear in their homes. It also seems like that there is some sort of little celebration similar to Halloween going on here, with the carved pumpkins lining by the buildings, fake cobwebs hanging around, and other similar decorations. Kids run around in costumes, even if it's during the day, and with some great music playing in the background, this looks to be a peaceful town overall.

Asides from the little monsters running around.

A purple rat, an owl with one leg, a living pumpkin, and a spiky raccoon, these creatures seem to be everywhere and none of the inhabitants of Littleroot Town appear to mind. Some of them are even accompanied by one, or summon them from little red and white balls. When characters search their new belongings, they will find the five of the small little balls. One of these balls, however, will shake around and have its centre light blinking red. Upon pressing the button, it suddenly grows from the size of a little ping-pong ball to a baseball. Characters don't get much time to marvel or question this strange technology though, as the device will suddenly open up and summon the character's very own monster! Whether this creature is friendly or not, it's all dependant on each one's personality, but do try to get along.

From that point on, this "Pokémon" will follow its owner (or "trainer") everywhere it goes, and may start try and nudge it towards the exit of the town. "Route 101", the little sign by the path says, pointing out into the wilderness.

What awaits characters out there, and will it be safe to venture forth?

There's only one way to find out!
